Future Post #5: Kingston (last one for now)

We stayed for a day in Kingston, NM with our warm showers host Bob. Kingston was the biggest city in New Mexico in the 1880's with 7,000 people. When the U.S. went on the Gold Standard in 1893 the silver mining town of Kingston was quickly abandoned by most of its residents. Now there are about 30 people who live here and along with the 200 people in nearby Hillsboro have set up a wacky little society.

Mark shows Bob and Stef around the bank in Kingston which is now a small museum.

Riding in the Fire Truck.

Stef trying on the volunteer fireman gear

We went back up Emory Pass in a car for a hike, this is Bob and Stef walking on the helicopter landing pad at the top.

Old abandoned house next door to Bob's.
