Roosevelt Island Tram

The Roosevelt Island Tram is shutting down on March 1st for 6th months so Alan, Zoe and Andrea and I decided to go on it for the first time last night. The tram goes between Manhattan, at 2nd Avenue and 60th Street to Roosevelt Island, a long, narrow island in the East River between Manhattan and Queens. There are two tramcars and during the day they run every 15 minutes, the ride takes less than five minutes so we had time to do it four times.

The tram has been around since 1976, before that the only transit access to Roosevelt Island was a trolly that crossed the Queensboro bridge and stopped in the middle where an elevator took passengers down to the Island. Now there is also a subway stop on Roosevelt Island north of the tram and bridge.

I'm glad you took the time to do this. Jess and I always wanted to but never actually got to it. Thanks for taking photos!
